My summer reading book was 'Water for Elephants' by Sara Gruen. It is a historical novel, taking place in the 1930s. It is a 93 year old man named Jacob Jankowski who is remembering what his life was like back when he was around 20 years old. He likes to remember these nice times when people were not always trying to assist him in everything he did. Back in the 30s he was going to take his final exams in college hoping to become a veternarian. When he hears that his parents were involved in a car crash, he runs away and hops on a train, which turns out to be a traveling circus.
Everyone on the train is confused by his appearence and are not very nice to him at first. When the owner of the circus, Uncle Al finds out that Jacob went to school training to be a vet, he put him in charge of caring for the animals. Not everyone is very friendly however. Jacob discovers that the head animal trainer August, is very abusive of his animals and his wife Marlena. Marlena is Jacob's love and he knows she deserves better. Jacob muct figure out how to stop August from being a horrible abusive person. I really enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it!!
Your post really made me want to read "Water for Elephants", it's so sad that the head trainer abused the animals and his wife. I might read that book next, it sounds really good!
